DraGoth by Tattered-Artemisia DraGoth by Tattered-Artemisia
DraGoth is the persona of DragonGoth [link] and is his entirely own species, some mix between wolf, dragon, and bird. He is found in dense forests on mountain ranges. Living in modern times it is impossible to completely avoid human contact and so all his clothing and accessories is the result of what has been left on his mountain. Being mortal and in hunting territory he avoids humans as much as possible making him very elusive and difficult to spot. Able to move on either the ground, among the trees or take off in flight, he is perfectly suited to this difficult terrain.

Great job, the detail's just lovely. I especially like the musculature and vein details in the arm. The wings seem a little flat to me (the one on the left looks a little cramped in by the edge of the picture), but overall it's a brilliant piece of work. :)

yea me + wings = sucks
I cropped the image to early and had to cram things in, I should have just dropped the wings entirely I think.

Ah, nothing like a good old cropping accident to boost morale. :dohtwo: It turned out very well, considering. How long did it take to complete? :)

Thanks, the mistakes are bad but I think what I did get right turned out not to shabby. Oh god... To be honest I haven't the first clue because I was forced to change designs completely at one point, I spent a long time doing research and so on. I'll say a good 30 + hours

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww....
Really not trying to act like so surprised or something considering that I’ve already seen the Wip Ray, but this has turned out incredibly more astonishingly than what I really though it could be... ^_^

Really love every tiny little detail of it, and despite my and Bryan’s notices on the wings, I still think you’ve done a perfectly brilliant work on them.. (I still remember you talking to me a weeks ago on how the wings were really awkward to ya, but Nooo…, you've really outdone yourself there hun.. :D

Baby I’m really proud of you.. ^^ I wish there are more crits that I can give, but seems like you and Lupinator has got them all.. =P

Thanks Ray.., you have no idea how uplifting waking up today and see this special piece of yours. You’ve really made up my entire week.. x33

Nah I shoulda put a no crit label on this puppy if you guys would hit up the same points... alwell.

It's no problem, plus you been asking for this for a long time so if I never got around to it I'd feel bad. But don't expect wings again for some time. ;p

BTW did you want it up for DA prints or not, up to you it is your character

Hahaha.., didn't really mean to crit on the same points lol.. xD These are only so little slips on it to talk about anyway so what can i do.. :)
But oh wells.., guess i really need me to have a better and deeper look at it as soon as i get back from the work.. (You want a more variety of the crits, you'll get some.. ;P )

And sure you may have it as a DA Prints.., I was already planing of print it out myself in a nearby friend's workshop (The Graphic Designer that i've told you about)..
If the shipping form DA wouldn't take that much i may as well be one of the first to buy the DA's prints version too.. ^^

lol it's fine, I'm not looking for a crit because I know my mistakes probably more so than the two of you. Next time I'll do better.

Ah.. I was just wondering if you wanted to be able to get your hands on the image full size. Whats on DA is about 1/4 the resolution and half the images actual size.

of course, not only does it take skill and imagination to create the character...the story behind the character can be just as difficult and express just as much creativity in the artist.

I find after the basic idea of a character is down if you figure out the environment they love in it can really help refine the personality and story of the character.

HAHA!!! Oh man... This looks go amazing... Maybe because you totally took my advice and just pimped the hell outta this! XD I mean, haha, it turned out looking really awesome, a lot better than I might have expected, but then again, I expect a lot from you. :3

Overall, I can't really critique this honestly... haha, you did everything I told you to do, which makes me laugh because I didn't really expect you to follow my advice so verbatim, tbh--I didn't necessarily think I knew what I was talking about and I kinda consider you the major authority on these things. But, not to be prideful or anything, but I'm kinda glad you did go after my advice, because I really love the results of my critique.

Wonderfully done! Beautifully done! I'm really admiring this, and it's the pictures like this that really makes me want to tackle those digital mediums sometime in my future.

What?! You didn't believe me when I told you how happy I was to get your crit and how much it helped me? I was even able to figure out areas that you didn't mention because your explanation was clear and easy to understand. You never told me one thing I didn't agree with so I took it and ran. I still have a few minor issues with it so I'm not still not 100% pleased with it but those really can't be dealt with now and I have learned those lessons. Also you should be proud, you helped me take this to the next level which makes me very greatful.

Hey any time you want to mess around with the digital world I'd be more than pleased to be your guide. ^^

Haha... Well, I dunno... I guess I thought you were just flattering me... :3

I've been taking a good hard look at the before and after of this image in you gallery, and I gotta say, the differences are almost staggering... If you haven't done that already, I suggest you give it a looksie, it'll probably cheer you up to see the improvement.

I guess if I were to critique anything on this, it'd be to keep on drawing wings, by no means are these bad wings, but there are a lot of other artists out there that have drawn wings to be utterly spectacular. I don't know the feeling you were going for, but I guess they don't really appear all that "majestic" to me, but still, very well done. The other point I might raise is how it kinda feels like you crammed in the left side wing. It understand why it's not so spread out is because you wanted the 1/3rd, 2/3rds composition, but maybe it you were to have spread the wing backwards and into the distance that might have read really nicely. That effect might also have gotten him to blend into the background a but too because you could fade the wing a little for that distances effect and meld him into the scene a little.
This is just food for thought, for further pieces or artwork. Sorry I couldn't think of anything right off the bat... I was kinda awestruck.

Wings are a huge weak spot for me. The only other times I have done wings were when they were attached to birds and folded up against the body so this was entirely new territory for me. I didn't have a clue as to how to even handle feathers as I had never done it before really. ^^; Trust me I know how crammed the image is and it bugs me to no end, but thats what you get for looking at an imaged cropped accidentally and saved before undoing. If I hadn't done that I would have spread the wings out, and done far more with them. But it was done and I was to far along to worry about it than. If asked I'd be happy to do this image again with a better composition and working on the wings, but it's to time consuming to go back on it at this stage of the game. But eh, you win some and lose some it's part of the game. *shrug*

That's what I was kinda talking to you about yesterday. Basically, even though you know it's not perfect, you'd change a few things, you're add/remove a few things, whatever... You should still work on it the best you can, and gain as much from the experience as possible. And, I know you told me that the wings were a new area for you, and it's impossible for anyone to expect you to get things down flawlessly on the first, or second, or even the tenth time around, whatever... But, like I said, you did a fine job for what little experience you had and even though I picked on them a little, they are well above par in my opinion.

Thankies kindly, and glad they still meet your approval because I'm done with this piece lol. And I have learned allot by it to apply in the future so I do feel confidant about it. Although I think I may drop doing wings for awhile, they are allot of work for not much. Maybe once I fight with them some more I can pull off something more grand but thats for a later date. :)

Seriously, right? I kinda hate that about some images... like for example, that chainmail you complimented me on in my recent deviation... yeah... well that took entirely too long, I'm just glad it turned out looking half-way decent enough. that's just the nature of the beast though. If you like drawing wings, then good on ya, I know a lot of people that do, but some things in artwork I'm not willing to work too hard for!

But yeah, I never wanted to imply to you that you should rework it, that'd be pretty messed up. It's done, and like every finished piece there is room for improvement in the next.

I do feel pleased I got this out of the way though. Every time I deal with a new texture I like to work on it the old fashion "every hair" method and than later find short cuts to make life easier. So now I have the basic feel of it when I have to do feathers and wings again I think I can come up with a faster more effective way of handling them. ^^

Which reminds me I was digging around my earlier digital paintings that never got finished and saw my first anthro were I tried the every hair technique. Whao was that messed up, the hairs were to harsh and random not following the body at all, there was no control it was horrible. The sad part is I used to be very proud of that piece and now I find it a horror but it goes to show the first time you try something may suck but it could be the first step to a great idea later.
